Overcoming Burnout: Why You Should Stop Making Resolutions

Janis Oenbrink FNP-C discussing overcoming burnout in Cocoa FL

New year, new you? Let us be realistic. Not much actually changed between 11:59 PM and midnight. Why do we always feel the pressure to start something new? I think we should just stop. Stop waiting. Stop complaining. Stop making excuses. Many people hate the idea of a resolution. It is usually just a reminder of an unrealistic expectation. My personal focus this year is on overcoming burnout and making mindful choices instead of mindless ones. I want to slow down and protect my peace.

The Secret to Overcoming Burnout

I spent a recent year completely scrambling. I started a new business while working a full-time job. I was studying for a specialist certification and recovering from a major endometriosis surgery. We were renovating our house. One daughter had a huge spinal surgery, and the other was busy with cheerleading. My husband worked endless overtime. We survived and thrived, but I felt every single symptom of exhaustion creeping into my physical and mental health.

So, my new plan is to consciously stop a few things. I want to stop doing things that do not align with my goals. I am going to stop entertaining ideas of failure in my head. I will stop comparing myself to others on social media. All of this starts with your mindset. Nothing changes unless you do. I am going to stop eating mindless calories. I am going to stop complaining about my body and simply move more.
